ADD YOUR NAME TO SEND A MESSAGE TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Agriculture is a leading driver of Canada’s economic resiliency. Our reputation for supplying the world with quality agricultural products, while hard earned, is greatly threatened by unnecessary disruptions in the supply chain. Help ensure that Minister MacKinnon and the Federal Government know what’s at stake and act to avoid a lockout and #StopTheStrike before it’s too late.

Dear Minister MacKinnon,

The looming threat of a lockout or strike action at CN and CPKC, Canada’s two cross-continent railways, is of great concern to Canadians. The potential simultaneous disruption of both national rail carriers poses a significant risk to our industries and the broader Canadian economy.

I am writing to encourage you to employ section 107 of the Canada Labour Code to direct the CIRB to help the parties reach an agreement under binding arbitration and suspend the ability for either lockouts or strikes pending an agreement. This will provide needed certainty to Canadian farmers and shippers, and their customers around the world.

Canada’s agriculture sector is a cornerstone of our nation’s prosperity, relying heavily on our reputation as a reliable supplier of quality agriculture and agri-food products. Rail service disruptions jeopardize the timely delivery of our products to international markets, leading to delayed shipments, contract penalties, and cancelled orders. This not only harms farmers and consumers but also impacts global food affordability and security.

It is crucial to recognize that these stoppages are avoidable, and their consequences are far-reaching. I therefore urge the federal government to utilize all available tools to prevent a lockout or strike. Supply chain disruptions have become increasingly frequent in Canada, impacting our trade relationships and raising concerns among our international partners.

The government must take action to avoid any stoppage and ensure uninterrupted rail service for the health and safety of Canadians and the well-being of the Canadian economy.
